Morning in the tavern, wenches start taking orders for breakfast. Thorkatla pays for our groups breakfast.
Pijack says that going unnoticed is just a benefit of being a halfling. He says he is accepted by most everyone except his family who didn’t like that he drank all the alcohol
Told us about an elven settlement that has a section that was made to resemble a human town. He went to see it and it was very close, but it was slightly off. Streets were pristine, Pub was pristine, otherwise replicated perfectly. Elven maiden was working in the pub, underneath a sign: Elvish mead – 5 silverpieces; Elvish handjob = 20 silverpieces. He asks if the elvish maid is the one who gives the handjobs. When she said yes, Pijack asks her to go wash her hands before he makes her mead. He laughs and says the handjob part is a joke, but the rest is real and the human area is populated with humans, elven area is populated by elves.
Eirikr came down to join us and met Pijack.
Thorkatla tells him about the princess. Eirikr tells us that this is not out of character for the prince. His mother is the daughter of the man that wiped out the fox clan. He had an immense hatred of magic users. Jarl Ildunner keeps to herself and doesn’t speak her mind very much. Straight and to the point when asked questions, but being raised by someone that hated magic users it seems likely she shared this hatred. Doesn’t seem out of the question that the prince would hate them too.
Thorkatla goes out to walk to walls and look for weak points.
Captain Filsch comes in carrying a scroll case printed with stag clan logo. He sits down and says that about an hour ago the army outside was reinforced and got supplies, including paper. They sent this scroll case over the wall. It is for the People of Tarentol and says that the crown prince is on the way and the siege will begin in proper and anyone who resists will be killed. Captain says he’ll do whatever the Drott says. If he tells him to protect the city and us, he will, but if he tells him to open the gates, he’s sorry, but he’ll do that. He went to visit the Drott this morning, and he believes his venture yesterday really exhausted him. There is no one in the line of succession. House guard would probably listen to the Drott’s wife, but the city’s guards would probably listen to the captain.
Skeld suggests that he could use invisibility to get 3 people at a time out of the city via a rope lowered down the wall. Concerns with splitting the party and what to do once we get farther away.
Disturbance is heard outside of the inn.
Drott’s wife comes on a procession with a bunch of people on servants with supplies. She goes up to the gate of the city and starts arguing with the guards at the gate.
She says the Drott had told her she could go riding. We physically block her from getting to the gate. Found out he had told her she could go riding a week ago. Wouldn’t listen to reason about the Drott’s order more recently that the gate should stay closed. We refused to let her guard by to open the gate and she eventually turns away and says we’ll be hearing from the Drott. Erfidi calls out that she bets we’ll hear a thank you from him.
Balian goes up to the ramparts and sees that there are maybe 100 more men outside and they are now only around 30 yards away from the gates.
Thorkatla didn’t find anything on her search around the wall. Just a few abandoned houses, but no weaknesses in the walls.
Merchants/commoners are building up at the gate, wanting to get out.
Discussions about possibility of digging a tunnel, going out invisible in groups, with no consensus. Current plan is to wait and see if the gates are going to be opened and if they are, Skeld makes three of us invisible and we try to sneak over the wall while others hide until Skeld recovers to cast the next batch of three and skeld hides until the third day when he can invis himself.
We go to the gate and start keeping watch. Eirikr says that even if Veld had made it to Laurelsong, it would probably be another day and a half to two days before they could have arrived.
Disturbance starts in the middle of the the city and making it’s way to the gates. It’s Bola again, now with a line of house guards. Demands again to open the gates. Eirikr says the gate isn’t moving because of the king’s command. Bolla is trying to rile the crowd up, claims we stole a girl from the goat clan. Molle tries to tell everyone that we are protecting her and we didn’t steal her.
Massive fight happens with Bolla’s 8 guards attacking and killing several us (city guards never get involved, but we did have to use magic in self defense). Bronin yells out to Bolla that she is his mother, but she says you’re no son of mine, what have you ever done but beg me for food. We kill all but one of them. The commoners are starting to get riled, but Captian Filsch and his guards try to calm them down. We take Bolla back to the Drott’s house and tell the other guards what happened and that one of us is her son and she still tried to kill us.
Prince Aldorf arrives with an army of 1,000. Goes into a tent with Prince Burr for a few minutes. As they walk out, Prince Aldorf is given a burlap sack. They walk up under the archway of the gate and disappear. He then bangs on the gate and says this is Prince Aldorf and open the gate.
We open the gate and Prince Burr is in chains and gagged. He tells us what Prince Burr has done is a great injustice and the Wolf clan is in debt to us for what they have done. He asks if we could do one more thing that they would be in debt to us for and heal someone. He then leads us to the command tent. A guy comes out with wounds from Grokthis blast (the scout). Skeld heals him.
Prince Aldorf tells the people that we have shown that we can use magic to damage, but also to heal. They can make us their enemies or our friends.
He brings out a pine box for Balian. It contains his chain mail shirt with the sigil of his clan. He says it was taken from him because they either thought he was a dwarf and not the equal of a clansman or he was a Boar clan member and not the equal of a clansman, but he his correcting that assumption.
We asked him about Thorkatla’s aunt and he recognized the name and said she’s been hired as part of a group that’s working on building a settlement. He said they will let her know that we’re looking for her and he’ll see if he can arrange passage for us to come back into Wolf clan and deliver it to her.
We leave Tarantol and get to the border between Wolf territory and Boar territory. (Next time we’ll have a look back to talk about the goodbyes with Eirikr, his men, the captain and Tarantol).
AND WE GOT LEVEL 5!!!!!!!!!!!
We heard that someone cast “Vicious Mockery” on Bolla’s horse and it threw her into the mud? Who did that?
